We have well and truly settled into our digs at the Abbotsford Convent and are enjoying the rich artistic and cultural milieu in which we find ourselves. We work at our designs in a room in the old convent building, which is now our studio. The garden at the convent is a constant source of inspiration. Some of the plants are quite unusual and the older trees and shrubs are of majestic proportions. My favourite plant here at the moment is the breathtaking Dombeya natalensis or Natal Wedding Bush (of the Sterculiaceae). Its white fragrant flowers are profuse in late autumn and early winter. The specimens here are far too large for the average home garden, which reminds me how fortunate we are to have these large, old, public green spaces.
